Where GPC membership collaborates to develop our policies
G21-B009 Establish a Waiting Period for Membership Reinstatement
Submitter Name
Darcie Lanthier
This proposal was discussed in the workshop during Phase 2 of the VGM. However, there was not enough time for this proposal to be voted on in plenary by the members during Phase 2. Therefore, this proposal will not be included in the ratification vote.
Proposal
This motion establishes a 30-day waiting period before a member who has resigned their membership is eligible for membership in the Party.
Append to Bylaw 1.3 Resignation and Removal of Member:
A person who resigns their Party membership is not eligible for membership in the Party until the 31st day following the resignation date.
Objective
To protect the integrity of a Green Party of Canada membership and to reinforce the importance of the Members’ Code of Conduct.
Benefit
This motion helps the Party avoid the administrative work of people resigning their membership when upset and then changing their mind once they calm down. It makes cancelling a GPC membership a significant action and will help the Party avoid frivolous resignations and subsequent reinstatements.
