2023 Federal and Young Greens Council Elections
Electing the representatives of the Green Party of Canada's members
Stuart Hunter
" As I'm writing this, the light coming into my room is the wrong colour. I woke up and immediately saw that something was off. After a second I realized, as this is far from the first time, that ah, the smoke has arrived. Smoke from a terrifying number of fires in BC and Washington. With the fires threatening Yellowknife and Kelowna in the last while, I think this might be the most I've ever been freaked out by climate change. So honestly poor timing as I am thinking about that more than I'm thinking of convincing arguments as to why you should vote for me.
That said, the terror does reinforce my determination that the Green Party needs to succeed. And I do think I can be of assistance. With the exception of the leader, I have the most experience of anyone on Federal Council. I've stuck it out through a lot of turmoil and turnover; I've been on FC with a total of 61 other people so far and I've been able to work with all of them effectively as needed. Four of those have been my fellow Youth Reps/YGC Co-Chairs. If I get in, this is going to be my last term, regardless of whether it's two years or one year. Please rank me #1 to give me more time to help out before I'm term-limited! Thanks!! "

Candidate Introduction
Hello! My name is Stuart Hunter (he/il) and I am running for a third and final term as Co-Chair of the Young Greens of Canada and Youth Rep on Federal Council. I’m the longest-serving Co-Chair ever and the second-longest-serving current member of FC and I hope to use my experience to help reform the YGC and set it up for future success. Over the years I have seen many things that do and don’t work.
I started out with the UVic Greens campus club during the 2015 federal election before joining my local BC Greens riding association. From there I got involved with the club executive, then in 2018 I was elected as YGC Co-Chair for the first time. Over the last eight years I have volunteered for the Greens in six federal/provincial elections (plus by-elections) with experience spanning local, national, and international levels.
I have served on the FC Governance Committee for the entirety of my two terms as Youth Rep and was the only person on the Leadership Contest Committee in both 2020 and 2022. I have also been on the YGC Campaigns Committee, Engagement Committee, and Governance Committee, the latter of which I have also chaired. Between my terms as co-chair I was asked by the YGC Council to come back in a non-voting advisory role. Additionally, I am currently a member of the GPC Constitutional Renewal Commission.
Recently, I was selected to represent both the GPC and the YGC at the 2023 Global (Young) Greens Congress in Korea. Shortly afterward, I was elected as the member for the Americas region on the Global Young Greens Oversight Committee.
I have all kinds of experience working well with Greens from all parts of the organization, during both difficult times and more successful eras.
In real life/outside of Green stuff, I live in Victoria BC on the land of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) people and I am currently working on my masters thesis in French at UVic and uh I play video games a lot… etc…
Please make me your first choice one last time !
