2023 Federal and Young Greens Council Elections
Electing the representatives of the Green Party of Canada's members
Pearson Singbeil Montgomery
Hello!
My name is Pearson Singbeil Montgomery. I am a 21-year-old genderqueer/non-binary person residing on Treaty One Territory - the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Assiniboine, Dakota, and Dené Peoples and the homeland of the Red River Métis - in the City of Winnipeg.
I have been involved with the Greens since 2019, where I volunteered on David Nickarz's provincial campaign in Wolseley. I have since worked with both the Green Parties of Manitoba and Canada, as Youth Representative, Secretary, Campaign Services Assistant, and President with the former and as Manitoba Representative to the latter. I have also served as a Member-at-Large on the Young Greens of Canada Council since January 2023 and as a canvasser, advisor, or Official Agent on more than a dozen Municipal, Provincial, and Federal campaigns. As the GPM's First Youth Representative, I was responsible for leading the establishment of the Manitoba Young Greens in 2022 and pushing for free membership for youth aged 12-30 which together allowed us to grow our youth membership more than ten-times previous numbers. Earlier this year, I also attended the Global Young Greens Congress in Korea as a representative of Canada.
Outside the Greens, I have a passion for sustainable, human-scale urbanism and local community engagement. I am a long-time participant and volunteer at Art City, a local free-for-all-ages professional art studio where I have led a number of election-themed workshops for youth. For 5 years, I attended and volunteered with Youth Parliament of Manitoba, a youth-run non-profit organisation which teaches youth about politics through an annual model parliament in the Manitoba Legislature, and in that organization presented a bill on telecom reform and helped make major improvements to YPM's Governance documents. I am also an avid Cycle commuter who regularly attends Critical Mass and other community cycling events and a Board Member of moonlight • institute, a policy non-profit working to build new, non-colonial frameworks for more equitable, sustainable societies and democratic, people-focused organisational governance.
Hopefully, if elected, I can continue to offer my experience and skills to the Young Greens Council.
Thanks :)
