2024 Federal and Young Greens Council Elections
Electing the representatives of the Green Party of Canada's members
Glenys Babcock (she/her, they/them)
Hello. I am a Public Policy Analyst, Applied Researcher and Data Scientist who believes the Green Party of Canada has the right vision, right priorities and right people to tackle the most pressing issues facing our country today.
I joined the Green Party of Ontario in 2022 as the Nickle Belt candidate and as a member of the Sudbury Greens to speak up for residents of the Ontario north and to ensure our climate and environment globally are sustained for the next seven generations.
I am a lifelong social justice, peace and democracy activist, starting as an anti-apartheid protester in the ‘80s. I am a passionate DEI champion and am personally committed to following the path toward Truth and Reconciliation with humility.
Professionally, I have served a wide range of clients for more than 25 years, including in Canada’s federal and provincial governments, the World Bank, Fortune 500 companies, and dozens of not-for-profit organizations.
As a volunteer, I have worked in soup kitchens and palliative care wards, as a winter camp counsellor and community fundraiser, and more. I am currently Board President for the Pragmora Institute for Peace and Democracy and a board member of the Nickel District Conservation Foundation in Sudbury.
I am thrilled to have this opportunity to apply for the position of Vice President-Anglophone with the Green Party Federal Council. I am keen to apply my skills and experience to getting more Green candidates elected and to supporting the work of the Federal Council.
I live in Copper Cliff, a mining town just outside of Sudbury. This community has experienced an extraordinary transition from the devastation of land clearing and mining pollution to a beautiful clean green environment.
Together, we CAN bring about change.
Experience and Skills
I have served as a member of a number of Boards, Board Executives, and Board Committees, including for the Green Party of Ontario, Sudbury Green Party Constituency, Nickel District Conservation Foundation, Canadian Feed the Children, and Canadian International Council.
I am a leader in public opinion research and communications research.
I hold a PhD in public policy analysis
Building on my interest in conflict de-escalation, I have a certificate from the Harvard Extension School in Advanced Negotiation.
I have a strong understanding of governance issues, some training in this area, and have written privacy and governance policies for different organizations.
I am a keen, fast learner.
I believe that the diversity of my professional experience and my lived experience, along with my focus on being supportive, will allow me to help others on the Federal Council achieve their goals and elevate their work.
