G21-P030 National Strategy for Older Adults | VGM-2 Amended Version

Proposal
This is the amended proposal adopted by GPC membership at the VGM-2.
The GPC advocates the development and implementation of an evidence-based National Strategy for Older Adults to create an organized and concerted focus on older adults' well-being across all domains throughout the aging experience, with consistent standards across the nation.
Objective
To provide a policy framework for addressing seniors’ needs. Recent events show Canada is much in need of a coordinated and concerted focus on seniors' wellbeing throughout the ageing experience. Governments and international organizations create strategies and action plans to articulate a vision or steps in response to a major issue.
Benefit
This pandemic has taught us as a country that no one single organization or government can “fix” seniors’ issues. Only by truly working together in a multi-sectoral approach can we leverage the creativity of individuals, the compassion of caregivers, the power of communities, the expertise of professionals, and the impact of organizations.
Supporting Comments from Submitter
Even before the pandemic, many well-respected national organizations such as those listed below have identified the need for a national strategy for seniors. The Prime Minister has now appointed a Minister of Seniors but has not included the development of such a strategy in her mandate letter.
