- *Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), and the Israeli human rights groups B’Tselem and Yesh Din have all stated that Israel is committing the crime of apartheid, * Israel’s policies such as forced evictions, home demolitions, and separation of Palestinian families across all territories under its control amount to apartheid. *The Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in OPT stated that the political system of entrenched rule in the occupied Palestinian territory satisfied the prevailing evidentiary standard for the existence of apartheid. *Israel is committing gross human rights atrocities against the Palestinian civilians of Gaza.
- Emergency Motion Statement
- Be it resolved that this proposal will be decided by the general meeting of 2024 and not be postponed to a policy development process. Be it resolved that the Green Party of Canada hereby acknowledges and declares Israel to be an apartheid state and calls on Israel to end its gross human rights atrocities against the people of Palestine. And Be it resolved that the Green Party of Canada endorses the findings of the International Court of Justice with respect to charges of genocide brought against Israel by South Africa. And be it further resolved that the Green Party of Canada supports the restoration of full funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) that was cut by Canada and other nations January 26, 2024. I dont think this qualifies as an emergency motion. It basically re-presents your original motion, G23-P007, as an emergency because you do not expect it to be discussed otherwise.
I disagree. G23-P007 is number 7 in the order, and we have already dismissed the first 2. If we canot get to 5 more we are not meeting the terms we agreed to yesterday.
Also don't forget the procedure that must be followed before the motions are fully adopted -- ratification vote in 3 months.
I would encourage support of my motion since it calls for immediate action by the party to condemn the military action by Israel, and call for an immediate ceasefire. That is a crisis and an emergency.
