I agree with your analysis. Essentially, the proposals for co-leadership would unnecessarily complicate our leadership elections. Frankly, I have yet to see any convincing reason why co-leadership would be of any benefit to the Green Party of Canada.
I don't really have a horse in the co-leadership vs no-coleadership race. The point here is that some people want co-leadership, and if that happens, I think it's important that the co-leaders be elected, not appointed. So even people who are against co-leadership can support this motion, because it doesn't say we have to have to co-leaders, it says that IF we have two co-leaders THEN they have to be elected.
Regarding the thing about "we cannot force two independently elected people into such a tight collaboration", at the end of the day, it depends what we want from our politicians. The reality is that there are conservatives out there, as well as NDP, Bloc, Liberals. I might be naive, but I think the people we elect are supposed to be able to collaborate with people from other parties in order to get work done. If that is the case, how pathetic would it be for someone who is a green leader not to be able to collaborate with - another green?!
Again, not saying co-leadership is necessarily desirable on its own. But if it isn't desirable, it shouldn't be because it is unrealistic to ask a green to share leadership duties with another green. Basically, saying two greens can't share leadership duties is saying that greens can't collaborate with other people. I think there are at least some greens out there that can work with others on important issues. I've seen it happen, on a few occasions. To me, if someone is unable to share leadership duties, maybe they're just not cut out to be a leader.
