Agricultural Water Security Act
- Proposal text
- Funding will be made available by the Federal government to upgrade the efficiency of the existing water and irrigation systems of Canada’s farmers. It will also help them purchase drought-resistant seeds. It will invest in vertical farming initiatives and AI-assisted irrigation techniques on a provisional case-by-case basis.
- Type of Proposal
- Public policy that the party would represent
- Objective / Benefit
- Water is an increasingly valuable and scarce resource due to the shifting weather patterns caused by climate change. It has become important to more efficiently manage Canada’s Water Resources. The largest user of Canada’s existing water supplies is the Agricultural industry. They consume around 70% of all freshwater used on an annual basis. To make resource usage more efficient, we should begin by targeting the largest users of the limited resource. Investing in water-efficient, drought-resistant seeds, high-efficiency or AI irrigation, water efficiency techniques, and vertical farming initiatives will make our farmers better able to provide the food our country needs to eat, while reducing their overall water usage.
