Conversation with Yvonne Macor
We need to support more people being educated in public service, rather than personal profit careers. That would include all health care workers, environmentalists, public administration, etc. Most university education needs to be subsidized so that more equalified young people can access it. Let them study more about how to maintain health and a healthy environment, and let's assess the success of that approach. Graduate study for students who want to become doctors could later be subsidized further if there is a continuing shortage of doctors.
You're right, Yvonne, that Green philosophy (and existing member-made policies) promote a holistic and preventative approach to medicine and wellbeing. I agree! I chose this wording because I'm curious to see if it would resonate in terms of something candidates can say during elections. Greens have long advocated for free post-secondary, but we're a long way away from that. Lack of doctors and nurses is, without a doubt, an election issue for 2025. What are Greens going to say? I feel this is a strongly worded, simple statement: that Greens feel free post-secondary should apply to all, but for now let's start with our most vital, most needed sector.
